Sony VPL-VW12HT…Less Maintenance!
Great projector for those who are looking for an upgrade in resolution and contrast, but be aware that if you have already set up your home theatre for particular specifications, do a little research first. The Sony VPL-VW12HT is noticeably larger than projectors and has a noticeably larger price tag.During the first couple of years of production for the VPL-VW12HT the retail price sat between $6500 US and $4000 US. The VPL-VW12HT was ultimately built for home theatre enthusiasts, and you can tell with the features that it offers. From a low noise level, to 16:9 native aspect resolution, it was made so you could enjoy movies and television from the comfort of your home.
Purchasers of the earlier Sony models that were part of this series, like the VW10HT and the VW11HT, were experiencing problems with dust accumulation. The paths and the filters had to cleaned on a regular basis, and even then would still pose problems and overheat. The VW12HT has effectively fixed the problems by employing an advanced filter system to remove dust and particles in a more efficient manner.
Regular cleaning and “dusting” of your projector should still be an important way to lengthen the life of projector lamp and internal components, but with the VW12HT, you don’t have to worried about it all the time. You must be careful when removing the dust filter from the VW12HT when cleaning, as it can be easy to release the particles in the direction of the internal frame.
One downside to the VW12HT is that it does not come with Lens Shift. Some people who have designed their home theatres in such a way that they must place the projector high up on a shelf behind the audience might not be able to project properly. You will have to mount it into a ceiling bracket and flip the projector upside down in order to get the right position. You will have to decide between the ceiling mount or to place the VW12HT on a table in front of the viewers
The brightness of the VW12HT is excellent with 1000 ANSI lumens allowing for a large image (approximately 20 Feet), and beautiful clarity. The VPL-VW12HT is powered by a 200W projector lamp that will last you a meager 1000 hours. The OEM lamps will not last as long as some of the aftermarket projector lamps that are being produced today.
This projector offers exuberant HDTV quality picture in a WXGA format with a resolution of 1368x768p. The VW12HT gives many options for inputs including HDTV in 1080i formats, and the noise levels are impressive with a low 30db. Contrast is 1000:1, and this provides superb blacks with exceptional color saturation. There are not many problems that purchasers have had with the VW12HT, it is a solid machine that will give you great viewing pleasure.
