Rear Projection TV Versus Front Projectors
A debate is starting to emerge in chat rooms throughout the land between rear projection televisions or RPTV’s and front projectors of both the LCD and DLP variety. While many claim that RPTV’s automatically have a better quality image, higher resolution etc, we here at The Projector Lamp would like to open the debate up a little more. One major factor to consider, especially in this day and age when homes have become investments much more than places to raise the kids and moving happens often, is the sheer mass of the two. A rear projection television can easily weigh a ton. Okay well maybe not a ton, but you certainly aren’t going to be lifting it yourself and carrying it out the door. I think this is one of the major things people overlook when they are comparing the two. A front projector rarely weighs over 10 pounds and they even have backpacks designed specifically for them these days.
Another advantage the front projector has over the rear projection television is that the screen size is adjustable. With a rear projection television the screen size is set and set like a huge boulder in the middle of your living room. Front projectors are light, easily drill into the ceiling (which later can be covered up by plaster) and (here’s the great part) you can choose how big you want your television to be! If you ever decide to rearrange the layout of your home you can readjust your screen size, no problem. If you wanted to do this with a rear projection television, you’d have to buy an entirely new set.
Now, there is a lot of talk out there about making sure you consider the cost of having a professional screen built and installed in your home. Personally, I find this to be a lot of bologna. We currently have a PLV-Z2 in our home and the image splashes up against a taupe wall (yes taupe is a brutal color for a wall, I know) and the image looks just fine. If you want an upgrade image choose a lighter color, no worries. All this hype about screens is hogwash.
We here at MyProjectorLamps.com strongly recommend that you check out front projectors, they are the way of the future, why not jump on the bandwagon before anyone knows it’s a bandwagon. Ten years from now it’ll be kind of like saying you’ve been cheering for the Patriots since 1985 when they played da Bears in the Superbowl.
