Dell Does It Again with High Lumens Lamp

It almost seems mind-boggling how DELL manages to keep coming out with projectors that have higher lumens and contrast ratios while their price is doing the opposite. The newest addition to the DELL line-up is their 5100MP, designed in the same basic fashion as the usual gang but with some obvious upgrades.

The brightness revolution is definitely underway as relatively cheap projectors are now competing with higher end projectors. The manufacturers who are developing the higher end projectors must now incorporate new technology in order to separate themselves from the lower priced models.

It used to be the lumens that really dictated the price of a projector, however, with bold and innovative companies like DELL, competition is rising. A little while back, if you were to employ a high lumens projector lamp in your projector, you would have to put in an expensive cooling system to ensure long lamp life. The technology is growing exponentially and the availability and cost to put in a proper cooling system is now affordable for projector manufactures and therefore also for the consumer.

You can now expect to pay less than $4,000 to get a projector that is bright enough to light up an auditorium. Universities and other institutions can now afford to fill every amphitheatre without breaking the bank.

Let’s go back to the importance of lamp life in these new high lumens machines. If the advanced cooling systems were not available to cool the projector lamp, the result would be short lamp life. This would ultimately compensate for the difference between high-end projectors and their low-end counterparts. The higher priced projectors would cost more because they would have a longer lamp life and therefore be more affordable in the long run.

Fortunately, for consumers, companies like DELL are making projectors not only inexpensive to purchase, but they are also inexpensive to maintain, especially in regards to projector lamp replacement. The DELL 5100MP may have a projector lamp that is able to spit out 3300 ANSI lumens, but it can also last over 2000 hours.

Many older projectors that used high wattage projector lamps were not able to maintain long lamp life due to the extreme heat that these lamps produce and their inefficiency to keep them cool. So once again, DELL is the champion of affordable projectors, but can they maintain a high standard of quality?
