South Africa’s Projector Market Strong
At the bottom of Africa, in a country free of a racist regime and trying to maintain one of the stronger economies on the continent, the projector market is booming. South Africa is going gaga for the home theater projector. The total projected projector sales for the entire country in 2005 is expected to be 40,000 units, now it may not sound like much, but for an African nation that is a ton. With major brands like Infocus targeting South Africa heavily with projectors such as their international superstar, the X3, interest is sure to be sparked. In fact, experts state that South Africa will experience a 200% increase in projector sales over the next 5 years. Sales increases like these will undoubtedly make South Africa a global player in the years to come. Actually the rate of growth in the projector industry in South Africa is greater than that of Europe.
Driving the surge in projector sales in South Africa is the fact that the country has high demand for projectors in the educational markets specifically. South Africa has always been known to provide high-quality higher education institutions, most of them quietly disapproving of the apartheid government while it was in power. And now those same universities and colleges are updating their classrooms in a big way.
South African schools are now known for being some of the most technologically advanced facilities in the world. These “smart” classrooms as they are known are setup with video conferencing enabled wireless projectors that also include DVD players. Personal computers that are integrated with the projectors and hooked up to the school networks are also available. This allows students to access information from online or the university databases and makes the classroom experience enriching.
One thing is for sure, projectors are influencing the landscape of South Africa and helping to bring revitalization to a region that was divided for so long and that has struggled to make things better for the past decade.
