Proxima DP9290 : Lamp of Champions

Now much cheaper and much more affordable than ever, the Proxima DP9290 is the marathon runner in the projection world. Originally priced much higher, similar to the cost of a low end Hyundai Accent, this mid-end projector became a stalwart contender back in late 2001.

Available now for under $3000 USD and quite possibly much less if you find a used one, the DP9290 has many features and is optically quite stunning. It is extremely bright with an above average 3500 ANSI lumens allowing you to view in rooms where ambient light is present, yet it won’t effect your image. The 200W UHP lamp located at the projector’s core provides the clarity needed for such a nice picture. It is available for purchase by clicking here Proxima DP9290 Lamp and is available at the low price of $309.97 USD. The one trade off for such a bright lamp is that it only lasts for 1500 hours.

A beautiful thing about this projector is that it comes equipped with a great lens that is able to throw from a short distance of 1.5 meters and yet still provide an image that is 79 cm across. However it does also have the option to replace your lens with a long throw lens if you need it for more commercial/educational purposes. This allows for a much bigger picture, that is still crisp and clear as if it were a few feet away.

The DP9290 is compatible with all the input resolutions available including HDTV, Component Video and the elusive DVI-D. This being said, the native resolution, which stands at 1024x768p, does not seem to match. However, this monster can compress the resolution to a maximum of 1600x1200p, which then does support these other sources.

Other features that the DP9290 offers are Digital Keystone correction, Vertical Lens shift and a Digital Zoom. Proxima offers a warranty for 2 years, so make sure you put it to the test before your time is up, otherwise you may have to haggle with phone people until you are allowed to speak to a manager and solve your problem. That is all that you need to know, the rest you will learn as you begin to learn the ways.
